Ingredient Crush - Restore your Dermal Barrier with Ceramides

We are over the moon excited and doing a little happy dance with the dogs about the launch of our newly reformulated Cloud Ceramide Balm. Now you may remember our limited edition Cloud Comfort Balm last year…well, it was a hit but we knew we could do better so this year we elevated the formula with some pretty potent ceramides to repair the dermal barrier and restore the skin to health.

What are ceramides and how do they work?

Simply put, ceramides are lipids (fats) that are found naturally in high concentrations in the uppermost layers of skin. They make up over 50% of skin’s composition, so it’s no surprise they play a vital role in determining how your skin looks and how it responds to the environment.

Think of ceramides as the mortar between bricks—if the bricks are your skin cells. Ceramides help hold the skin together by forming a protective layer that limits moisture loss and protects against visible damage from pollution and other environmental stressors. In addition, ceramides—even more than retinol, niacinamide, and peptides—are one of the anti-aging “powerhouses” responsible for supporting skin’s dynamic nature.

Skincare products containing ceramides will help reinforce your skin’s barrier and increase hydration—giving you plumper, smoother, firmer-feeling skin with fewer visible lines and wrinkles, as well as fewer signs of sensitivity. Ceramides are used to replenish the natural lipids that are lost from exposure to harsh environmental factors, use of drying products and during the natural aging process. They restore moisture, reinforce the skin’s natural barrier and help protect it against harm from foreign elements. Ceramides are also particularly effective in soothing eczema. People who have eczema have fewer ceramides in the outer layer of their skin compared to people with normal skin. People with psoriasis also have deficiencies of some ceramides, using products that contain ceramides may improve these conditions.

Because they’re naturally a part of your skin, ceramides are ideal for all skin types—even the most sensitive, breakout-prone, or oily skin.

Natural ceramides penetrate the layers of skin better than synthetic versions and are especially beneficial when integrated into a liposome.

Research:

Research has found that topically applied ceramides repair the skin barrier by normalizing lipid organization within the stratum corneum (the outer layer of the skin). This, in turn, restores the skin’s ability to act as a protective barrier.

Who should use skincare products ceramides?

Products containing ceramides like the new Cloud Ceramide Balm are ideal for those with sensitized, dry, inflamed skin and those with eczema/atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Ceramide-containing products are also beneficial for those with aging skin that is prone to dryness and dehydration.

In addition, the Cloud Ceramide Balm is the perfect protective barrier when out in the elements on windy or cold days.

Because they’re naturally a part of your skin, ceramides are ideal for all skin types—even the most sensitive, breakout-prone, or oily skin.
